Geno Smith injury update: Seahawks QB has bruised triceps

For the second time this season, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith had to leave a game due to injury. A massive hit by Aaron Donald (who else, right?) walloped Smith, and the subsequent floating pass was thankfully batted down by Will Dissly to avoid an interception.

Smith stayed down and was checked for both a concussion and the injury to his right arm. Drew Lock played in his absence, which couldn’t have gone much worse. A 16-7 lead turned into a 17-16 deficit to the Los Angeles Rams, at which point Geno returned to the game for the (ultimately unsuccessful) two-minute drill.

Here’s the update from Pete Carroll.

“Geno got a bruise kind of on his triceps, back of his elbow that kind of blew up a little bit, but he was able to come back and execute, so nice effort by him,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said (via Seahawks.com)

And from Geno’s point of view:

“A little sore, not the best, but God is good, so I’ll just keep pushing,” Smith said when asked about his elbow after the game.

Of all the times for a short week, this is the worst possible time. Up next are the 7-3 San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving night. If Geno can’t go, then it’s Drew Lock time with a shortened practice window.
