We know San Antonio loves a deal, especially when it comes to good eats! $10 Taste is a series from MySA where we look for the most affordable and tasty meals across San Antonio that are 10 dollars, more or less.
As someone who works often in the downtown area, sometimes, I just want a quick and easy option for lunch. That’s where Pete’s Tako House comes in.
I’ve mostly visited Pete’s for their hearty fideo loco or the consistently satisfying breakfast tacos, but when I was searching for this week’s $10 Taste, I caught on to the downtown taqueria’s daily lunch specials.

I showed up at Pete’s on a Tuesday afternoon, a day when Pete’s offers $8.99 carne guisada plates as well as a $9.49 chicken fiesta plate. I’ve had plenty of carne guisada in my lifetime, but the chicken fiesta had me all kinds of curious. Instead of being logical and simply asking my server for a quick explanation, I just went for it.
As I waited for my lunch plate, I munched on some complimentary chips and salsa, a testament to Pete’s commitment to good service. The dining table I sat at was decorated with adverts from local businesses, like contractors and family medicine practitioners. This is a community-driven space, I thought to myself.

Soon, my food arrived, and it was a sight to see. The chicken fiesta plate features a mound of chopped chicken fajitas cooked with peppers, onions, and tomatoes that were seasoned to the fullest extent. That’s not all; the plate also had rice, beans, salad, and a dollop of guac to top it off. I was also given two flour tortilla, which could serve several purposes.
It was way more food than I expected to eat in one sitting, and yet, I went for it, shoveling spoonfuls of rice and beans into my mouth between bites of spicy chicken. At one point, I used a tortilla to scoop up an assortment of food.
I got maybe halfway through the plate before I needed to ask for a to-go box. For $10 and some change, I had more than enough to eat in one sitting, plus I could save the rest for dinner. While I’ve yet to try the rest of Pete’s Tako House lunch specials, this chicken fiesta plate is $10 Taste approved.
