It was a sloppy win, but it was a win nonetheless.
Following Ohio State’s tough 24-10 victory on the road over Wisconsin, Ryan Day addressed the media about TreVeyon Henderson’s big outing, Kyle McCord’s ups and downs and a few key injuries.
- On TreVeyon Henderson’s performance: “This is a big run we’re about to go on, and you can see the difference he makes when he’s out there. … The explosiveness, the speed. … You can just see when he’s out there, the impact he’s having on our offense. That run he had there in the fourth quarter was big.”
- On drives that got into Wisconsin territory but didn’t result in points: “We’re all frustrated that we’re not able to finish off some of those drives. … There’s a lot that goes with that.”
- Day said Ohio State’s staff decided to “hold” Emeka Egbuka one more week but that he “expects” him to be back next week.
- More on Henderson: “You can do so much with him, he has such a great skill set. … No one wants to be out there more than him. … He was a little winded there at the end, he hasn’t had that many carries in a while. … It just puts more and more pressure on the defense.”
- There’s no update on Lathan Ransom yet, Day said.
- On Marvin Harrison Jr.: “I believe he’s the best football player in the country. … He’s a dynamic player and he keeps bringing it every week. The consistency is starting to show week-in and week-out.”
- Day said that Kyle McCord will be “fine” and that injuries didn’t get in his way entering the game. Something might have happened during, Day said, but he “kept swinging.”
- On McCord’s two interceptions: “On the first one, it was just a bad decision … the ball should have been thrown away.” Day said that he doesn’t “blame” McCord for the second interception because the corner came off a deep zone to make a good, risky play.
- On missed if he’s “frustrated” over points left on the field: “We’re going against good teams … but yes, you know what we want to get done. You know the expectation. So there’s still things we’ve got to get better at.”
- “We’re playing well in the fourth quarter. I’d like to see us play even better in the first half, but we are finishing games.”
- Day feels that Ohio State’s defense “played hard” and “rallied to the ball” against Wisconsin. He praised the team’s goal-line stand at the end of the first half and the play of the Buckeyes’ secondary.
