Lupita Nyong’o shared some of the messages of support she has received since her breakup on Sunday.
The actress, 40, took to her Instagram Story to post more words of encouragement people have shared with her since she announced her split with her now-ex, Selema Masekela.
The Oscar winner — who revealed she had ended her relationship with the television host after one year — shared a series of quotes with the hashtag #HeartbreakHealing.
‘Let the healing begin,’ she wrote as she cited a motivational phrase from author R.H. Sin.
Nyong’o also quoted travel blogger Jessica Nabongo and wrote: ‘When we stand in our truth, it allows others to do the same. Sending love.’
‘Vulnerability is a superpower,’ she wrote, sharing a message from Georgia State Representative Inga Willis. ‘We lift you up with love, and assemble the sisterhood circle around your heart.’
Nyong’o also shared a message from digital artist Ergo Josh that read: ‘You’re leading so many women to freedom.
‘As you validate your own emotions others can follow suit,’ the quote continued. ‘She’s exactly right y’all. The depth of that pain is directly correlated to the depth of your love.’
The message also said: ‘Don’t suppress it or else you will suppress the love you can give to yourself and others simultaneously.
Feeling sympathy for his friend, Josh had also exclaimed: ‘Oh who could do this to LUPITA!’
‘Nah you are just as valuable as her fam,’ he continued. ‘Don’t tolerate what your heart isn’t cool with.
‘Everyone around you will fight it because the damage has run so deep,’ he had told her in encouragement. ‘I’m thrilled at the thought of women young and old inspired by her choice to be public with this.
‘We’re programmed to accept and tolerate devaluation,’ he added. ‘Real strength comes from the love you have in excess once you meet yourself with love FIRST.’
Digital creator Nomfundo Mkhize also thoughtfully shared a prayer from Marianne Williamson to Nyong’o and wrote: ‘Take heart’.
‘My dearest Lupita, allow me to share this prayer with you,’ she shared. ‘Something loveless might have occurred in my life, and of course I have to process the feelings… but I don’t have to indulge them.’
‘I need to honour my feelings… but I don’t have to spew them,’ the prayer read. ‘By standing I. The spiritual trust that only love is really, I develop the ability to endure the gap in time between the pain of someone having hurt me, and the miracle of my release from suffering.
‘In time, as forgiveness becomes my way of life, the gap itself will no longer exist,’ the quote shared by Nyong’o read.
She also shared a message from Vuyo Mkize, which began: ‘You’ve translated my experience and heart so well.’
‘I’ll tell you as a sister who has gone through the same, and is now thankfully on the other side of it — it’s worth facing the pain to regain your yourself,’ the message read. ‘There is beauty in it, strength in it, and heaps of self discovery. Trust God with your heart, it’s precious. Thank you for this,’ she had written to Nyong’o.
‘I promise you it will elevate the level in which your [sic] able to love yourself & others,’ celebrity hair stylist Larry Sims had wrote to her. ‘This too shall pass. Love You Lovely!!!’
Finally, Nyong’o shared a short but sweet encouragement from folklorist Michelle Lanier: ‘This is a Freedom Song, through and through.’
The day before, she made her first red carpet appearance since her split.
Nyong’o was a vision in white at the GO Campaign’s 17th Annual GO Gala in Los Angeles just a few days after she was snapped getting cozy with Joshua Jackson at a concert.
Daring to impress in a plunging white gown, the actress stole the spotlight with her effortless beauty and style.
She teamed the sophisticated look with a headpiece made of white shells and posed alongside her glamorous mom, Dorothy Nyong’o, who shimmered in gold couture.
The red carpet outing came a few hours after she expressed gratitude to her fans after receiving an outpouring of love from them following the news of her breakup.
She took to her Instagram Stories on Saturday to share a heartfelt message thanking those who wished her well after announcing the split.
‘Thank you for all the kindness I have received from sharing my heartbreak news,’ the Star Wars alum began.
‘The words of encouragement mean more to me than I anticipated. They are a balm.’
‘And it feels comforting to have a little corner online for the romantically heartbroken to gather.’
Lupita went on to say that many of the fans had shared ‘resources’ such as poems songs and quotes to help her heal and she reposted a few examples of them.
In a separate Instagram post on Thursday, the 12 Years A Slave star wrote about the break-up and revealed she was in a ‘season of heartbreak’ due to ‘deception’ by an unnamed loved one.
While she did not specify what said ‘deception’ was, she left the suggestion open as she revealed her split from her boyfriend of one year to her 10.8m followers.
She penned: ‘There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering.
‘At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust…
‘I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.
‘I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way.”
‘But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass.
‘The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness. I hope it’s true…
Lupita had been in a relationship with the TV host and sports commentator, 52, since 2022. He is also the co-founder of the surf apparel company Mami Wata.
In April of 2022, Lupita joined her now boyfriend at the launch of his company in Venice, California.
Lupita’s breakup announcement came just hours after she was spotted looking cozy with Joshua at a Janelle Monae concert.
In exclusive photos, Dawson’s Creek star Joshua, 45, who shares daughter Juno Rose Diana, three, with estranged wife Jodie Turner-Smith, 37, was seen looking close with Lupita at the Janelle Monae gig in LA on Wednesday.
Joshua and Lupita were seen gazing into each other’s eyes and sharing a joke as they took in the star’s The Age of Pleasure show in Inglewood from their seats.
Turner-Smith, whom Joshua married in 2019, filed for divorce on October 2, citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’
Turner-Smith’s divorce filing came as a shock to fans, as the couple appeared to have an unbreakable bond throughout their four years of marriage.
The couple began dating in 2018 — two years after Jackson split from Diane Kruger — and they tied the knot in August 2019.
Jackson and Turner-Smith welcomed Juno, their only child, in April 2020.
Celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser is representing Smith in the divorce, with the actress seeking joint custody of their daughter.
