Penny’s Coffee Shop, located at 916 Main Street in the Bosche Lofts building near the Medical Campus, is now open for business.
There is already a buzz circulating around this wonderful café, which is not only great looking, it’s also chock full of all sorts of tantalizing menu items.
Upon paying a visit to Penny’s with a friend, the first thing that I noticed was that they were serving up some of the best bagels in Western New York, made by Dopest Dough in East Aurora. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, there’s also a Turkish coffee coffee station. These were two of the initial (menu) items of interest that we noticed while perusing all of the offerings.
After ordering a bagel and a couple of coffees, we sat back to take in the atmosphere. We were happy to see that there was a steady flow of customers coming in and out, many who stuck around, and many who were picking up their orders. It was fascinating watching a couple of the baristas as they tended to the Turkish coffee preparations, which is a fairly unusual ritual to see around the city.
We also notices that there were a couple of kids seated at tables, which is thanks to the thoughtful kids menu that is posted behind the counter. Kids are, often times, overlooked when it comes to these types of caffeinated settings.
For the sandwich lovers, there are a couple to choose from, along with paninis and melts. There are also a number of breakfast sandwiches and fixings, served on bagels and toast. For those in the mood for a snack, there are pastries and cookies, as well as just about any specialty coffee or tea imaginable. Throw in some salads and smoothies, and you’ve got plenty of reasons to add Penny’s Coffee Shop to your list of comprehensive café experiences in Buffalo. Not to mention that Penny’s is one of the only coffee shops around that didn’t look at me sideways when I asked for a porcelain house coffee mug (not a to-go-cup), because I was planning on sipping my coffee in the café. For that reason (among others), I am happy to support a business that has thought of just about everything, including a customer’s desire to not be wasteful.
