THE biannual silver and collectibles auctions at Woodwards in Cork are always a draw for collectors.
With a selection of 285 lots including highly sought-after Cork pieces and a c1790 Limerick silver tablespoon by Maurice Fitzgerald the sale on October 7 is no exception.
It gets underway online at 10am and prime lots include a five-piece tea service of baluster form by Egan’s, Cork, 1979 (€3,000-€5,000), a c1780 Cork silver cream jug by John Nicholson (€1,600-€2,500), a Royal Irish Silver oval serving tray made in Dublin in 1971 (€1,300-€2,000), a 1974 sauce boat by Egan’s (€1,000-€2,000) and a pair of Cork tablespoons by William Reynolds made around 1760 (800-€1,400).
Cork makers of yore whose work features include John Toleken, John Nicholson, Joseph Gibson, William Reynolds, Joseph Kinselagh, Thomas Whiting Montjoy, and Richard Garde. With the advantage of being more affordable, silver plate is generally more sought after in
England than in Ireland.
This sale has 91 lots of Irish silver and 111 lots of silver and plate along with collectibles such as stamps, coins, postcards, paintings, and prints.
