Hawkeyes grind out 20-14 win over Purdue

IOWA CITY — Hello from Kinnick Stadium, where Iowa will try to make it consecutive Big Ten victories in as many weeks today against Purdue. Another packed house is expected for the Hawkeyes’ homecoming affair.

After the Iowa defense forces a punt on Purdue’s first possession of the second half, Deacon Hill hits Erick All for a 27-yard gain over the middle. Maybe that will settle him down. Hawkeyes into Purdue territory.

Disaster strikes for Iowa with the clock winding down. TJ Sheffield gets loose for a 43-yard TD catch that has the Boilermakers on the board. Purdue finally cracks the scoreboard on its fifth time into Iowa territory.

It was a lengthy one at 49 yards, but it never had a chance. Hawkeyes miss a chance to cash in another huge play.

Another lengthy run for No. 2, this one covers 33 yards and gets Iowa out of the shadow of its own end zone.

Deacon Hill’s pass intended for Seth Anderson was a little high and slithered through Anderson’s hands and hit him in the facemask. Dylan Thieneman hauls in the ricochet for an interception. Now Cooper DeJean called for PI. Purdue inside the red zone again.

Another sack from Joe Evans, another touchback on Purdue’s punt. Iowa will start from the 20-yard line again.
