MORRISTOWN, NJ — Another major housing project in town has officially opened its doors, as developers continue to convert a local surplus of unsold space into rental units throughout the Morristown area.
Max on Morris, the newest multifamily community located at 175 Morris Street in Morristown, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty and executives from The Hampshire Companies, Sharp Management, and RHO.

The four-story housing development is pet friendly and offers in-unit washers and dryers as well as quartz countertops, tile backsplashes, and luxury plank flooring throughout, with kitchen islands available in select residences.
In addition to their main units, Max on Morris includes 14 units for adults with special needs.
Last month, Bill Byrne, a local resident known for his advocacy for people with disabilities, spoke at a council meeting, expressing his concern about who will manage the Max on Morris apartments designated for those residents.

“Somehow we do not have a licensed operator in that facility. We did raise this concern, and it is something we are very, very aware of and we are going to keep a very close eye on the operation. We promise you. Not only are we continuing to open up our community to lower and moderate-income housing, but we’re opening up our community now to a sector of our community that historically has problems getting housing,” Councilman Robert Iannaccone said.
Monthly rental rates for the community’s studio, one and two-bedroom apartments start from $2,340. New-construction specials are also available for a limited time. Initial occupancy is available.
According to officials, the building’s proximity to the Morristown Train Station makes it an ideal location for commuters working in the New York City area.
The building features an expansive shared co-working lounge with private meeting rooms and work pods to provide a professional environment for any type of worker, whether they work from home or in hybrid arrangements.

Residents have access to the building’s amenity package, which includes a second-floor entertainment lounge and a break room with a banquette that opens up to an outdoor amenity deck with BBQ grilling stations. Residents can also use bike storage and EV charging stations.
Additionally, the building’s 610 square feet of available ground-level retail space is ideal for a future café tenant.
“The whole process that the council did, the planning board did, I think they did a very good job. That building went from becoming, initially a warehouse, to a building that I think is fairly attractive and very welcoming when we come off I-187 coming into town. I think the developer did a very good job,” Iannaccone said.
