A FASHION influencer has told how she refuses to wear a bra despite comments from other women.
Confident Shareefa Gyami, who runs her own lifestyle blog, is fed up with women conforming to other people’s standards and thinks everyone should do what feels right.
The social media star, based in Austin, Texas, wants her followers to know that whether or not someone wears a bra has nothing to do with their professionalism.
She says: “Austin is a very open and pro women city. It’s also very warm.
“There’s been times that in professional settings women would suggest that I do wear a bra, but I’ve never had a man verbally express any suggestions or opinions really.
“There’s times where certain people would have a bit of trouble holding eye contact, but overall most women expressed wishing that they had the courage to go without a bra.”
Shareefa, 21, adds: “I think people should ultimately be able to wear whatever they want.
“However, in most cases where women have expressed wanting to go without a bra, not doing so has been because they feel a certain shame about the shape of their body.
“I think encouraging women to go braless is further creating a space of body positivity – because let’s be serious – wired bras are super uncomfortable and restrictive.
“There are days that I want that extra layer of warmth though so I’ll go for a bralette or something.
“People should wear what makes them feel comfortable and sexy.
“I do think that encouraging women to go to work braless is reinforcing a space of body positivity, where it is perfectly acceptable and professional for women to feel comfortable.
“We’ve almost ditched the panty hose requirement, bras should be next.
“And as I’ve shown in my videos, you can be stylish and comfortable and professional, there is no need to choose one.”
