Bryce Young will be the latest of an impressive list of former Alabama quarterbacks to be selected in the NFL Draft.
Young, who is expected to be the first No. 1 overall pick in next week’s NFL Draft, joined ESPN’s “First Take” on Wednesday and was asked if he had talked to former Crimson Tide stars Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Mac Jones and if they had offered any advice.
The former Heisman Trophy winner said he had talked them, though, he wasn’t very specific.
Here’s what he had to say:
“Emphasis on preparation and alll the things that happen leading up to Sundays,” Young said about the tips he had gotten. “Obviously, everyone sees how well – you mentioned it – they all play on Sundays. From all of them, I’ve heard what just goes into the process of it. I’m hearing individually how they prepare and what goes into it. And how to handle business individually – and with the team – throughout the week. The importance of practice and film study and doing all the little things so you can have success on Sunday. Hearing that and seeing the success they have had and knowing they echo that is is something that means a lot to me, and something I take pride in.”
Young also explained Wednesday why he canceled his remaining pre-draft visits leading up to draft. He had visits with the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans. However, he canceled remaining meetings
Hurts, of course, has just agreed to a five-year extension with a total value of $255 million, making it the largest in NFL history.
As the Miami Dolphins quarterback, Tagovailoa, meanwhile, said Wednesday he considered retirement after sustaining two concussions during the 2022 NFL season. But after deciding he wanted to keep playing football, the former Alabama All-American has started preparing for the 2023 campaign by “falling a lot this offseason.”
Jones got back to work Monday with the New England Patriots where he has a “clean slate” in 2023, according to Bill O’Brien, the Patriots offensive coordinator.
