Two-time Olympic hurdler and Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver, Devon Allen, was cut from the team’s 53-man roster this week, according to media reports. Allen, 28, was signed (again) the team’s practice squad.
The hurdler and wide receiver has been juggling two professional sports. He was on the Birds’ practice squad during the 2022-2023 season while also racing on the professional track and field circuit.
As a practice squad player, he’ll earn at least $12,00 a week and possibly be promoted to the active roster, according to Yardbarker.
Allen played football at the University of Oregon but then focused on running, particularly the 110-meter hurdles. He was controversially disqualified from the 2022 World Athletics Championships, due to a false start.
This year, Allen didn’t advance beyond the semifinals at the USATF Outdoor Championships due to an injury, that, according to Yardbarker, was still bothering him at the start of training camp.
Allen recently told TMZ Sports that he “definitely” is the fastest guy in the NFL.
“I definitely am…I’m not gonna roast [Tyreek Hill and DK Metcalf] because what they did [in track] was impressive. I raced Tyreek Hill when I was in high school,” he said. “We raced and he smoked me when we were in high school and DK Metcalf ran a 10.3 a couple years ago is super impressive for a guy that’s six-three, six-four, 225, but I think especially at the top level—top-five, top-10 in the world—there’s a big gap in terms of just performance.”
