Lupita Nyong’o attended the ‘Fat Ham’ opening night held at the American Airlines Theatre on Tuesday (April 12) in New York City.
I legitimately thought this was a picture from 2013 when Lupita first burst onto the scene promoting ’12 Years A Slave.’
This due to shorter, brushed out afro hair and the simple makeup.
As we all know, Lupita’s glam team became more creative with her hair styles and makeup colour schemes with time and more promo tours.
This felt like the actress had gone back to basics, with the flair concentrated on her Alaïa Twisted Table dress from the Spring 2023 collection.
Alaïa’s ability to create designs that universally flatter the female form continues to inform the House’s design aesthetic under the new creative direction with pieces like this dress taking a decidedly different approach.
Note how, instead of utilising structure, this piece sees the label use print to draw attention to the hips and waist, before mimicking playful pleats by way of thin stripes.
A truly fascinating and mind-bending design.
