As unattainable body types and unrealistic standards of beauty continue to be normalized, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to feel like you’re enough. While visiting the Louvre Museum in Paris, one woman had an emotional realization about her own body.
A Brooklyn-based content creator, Kelsey Kotzur (@kelsey_kotzur) documented a recent trip she took to the iconic museum and how what she saw impacted her sense of self.
“feeling emotional because these goddesses have my body,” she writes. As the video plays, we see Kelsey overcome with emotion as we cut to several statues.
The statues seen all share one common feature: Their bodies are curvy, imperfect and, as one commenter put it, have “soft bellies.” This shape was particularly prominent during the Renaissance, as fuller-figured women were viewed as the ideal body type.

Kelsey wasn’t alone in feeling moved by this realization. Other TikTokers felt the same sense of relief in recognizing their bodies are “timeless” the way they are.
“Soft bellies,” one user wrote.
“Yup through studying art history, we learned this body type was seen as the epitome of femininity! Should still be seen that way!” a TikToker replied.
“I love this because sometimes I feel like my body isn’t ‘normal’ but it’s actually timeless,” someone said.
“It really changes your perspective on yourself and what we consider ‘beautiful,’” another added.
In a society that often seems to prioritize a seemingly slim and “perfect” body, there’s something incredibly comforting in knowing that body types often deemed undesirable nowadays have a long history of being seen as beautiful. Perspective is key, and Kelsey’s video makes that abundantly clear.
